Gwent Outdoor Centres

What you can expect...

Whether it's your first time or you've been before, coming to one of our residential outdoor centres is going to be enjoyable, challenging and exhilarating. You'll be experiencing some real adventures in very exciting places – rivers, caves, crags, mountains and gorges.

If it's your first time away from home, don't worry, our centres are homely, warm and comfortable and we cook fantastic, tasty food. Please let your teacher know if there is any food you can't eat so we can find something you like.

Breakfast is cereals, toast, and a hot cooked option (maybe beans on toast or bacon and eggs)

We have a packed lunch (sandwich, crisps, fruit) usually eaten off site. You will need to make your own sandwiches each day just before starting breakfast.

At the end of the day you will have a hot meal such as pizza, pasta, fish fingers and curry. There will always be a choice and each day there will be different meals to choose from.

Being away with your friends is probably exciting, nerve-wracking and a little bit scary! But we aim to make it lots of fun. The boys and girls will live on separate corridors, in small dormitories with bunk beds, so you won't be alone at night. There are ample toilet facilities and the showers are lovely and hot and each have their own cubicle, so no sharing needed.

We expect you to help us in making the trip go smoothly. You will need to keep your bedroom clean and tidy, maybe hovering up! You will make you own bed, help out with cleaning tables after meals and make a packed lunch for yourself each day.

Your activities will be organised in advance so you should have the chance to get involved in the planning from the start. The more you do this, the better the course becomes. Make sure you talk to your teacher or organiser and find out what they have planned and you can get a heads-up on what to expect.

We want you to experience success and to understand what teamwork really means. To make this happen you will need to make sure you follow instructions, act responsibly and safely, consider others – and to have a go at everything!

Gwent Outdoor Centres – outdoor education in Gwent and Powys

What activities?

Safety first for all

At Gwent Outdoor Centres our experienced staff always put safety first. We are licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), which is overseen by the Health and Safety Executive. The AALA was set up to ensure outdoor activity providers follow good safety management practices. These should allow young people to experience exciting and stimulating activities outdoors – without being exposed to avoidable risks.

We continually monitor and update our procedures to ensure the safety of the young people in our care.
